What's Happening Around Town

Pownal School District - FY17 Annual Report - FY19 Budget

Pownal Taxpayer:
As you may be aware, the passing of Act 46 in 2015 has dominated our thoughts especially over the last year. Some have felt the passing of Act 46 means we need to consolidate our schools together to form one pre-K through 12th grade district. However, others have felt that this one size fits all approach to education is not possible in every district and town. Because of this, Act 46 does allow for alternative structures. The Pownal School Board has written a letter to the Agency of Education asking that the current structure of the SU remain the same and we await their decision.

Despite the uncertainties of Act 46, Pownal Elementary School continues to lead the way for the other elementary schools in our area. Under Principal Phillips' leadership, our success in the implementation of the multi-tiered system of support has been recognized by the Agency of Education and we have received, for the second year in a row, the PBIS School Improvement Award. Other elementary schools are using Principal Phillips' framework for their schools as well. In addition, Pownal School has implemented safety measures that Safety Coordinator Milani has used as a model in formulating his safety plan for all schools.

The Pownal School Board is very appreciative of the hard work and dedication that Principal Phillips, the teachers and staff have shown to our students and community. We also would like to thank our community members for their continued support to and in our school. Our Board meets every third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 PM. All are welcome to attend.

Respectfully submitted,
Cynthia Brownell, Chair
Angie Rawling, Vice Chair
Tammy Sohl, Clerk
