New Vermont Disposal Rules - What you need to know!

Effective July 1, 2020, all food scraps are banned from the landfill in Vermont. Residents will need to compost their food scraps, take them to their transfer station, feed to livestock, or have them hauled away. Food can also be donated to local food banks. To prepare for the food scrap ban July 1st, we will host compost bin sales at three locations!

May 6, 2020:
Bennington Highway Garage on Orchard St. in Bennington, 4 PM - 6 PM.
May 7, 2020:
Shaftsbury Town Hall Garage on Buck Hill Rd. in Shaftsbury, 4 PM - 6 PM.
May 8, 2020:
Dorset Town Highway Garage on Village St. in Dorset, 4 PM - 6 PM.

Advance payment is required. The deadline to place an order is March 14, 2020. Visit the BCSWA website for full list of sale items and prices and to find out how to order.

Effective July 1, 2020, state law (Act 69 of 2019) prohibits stores and food service establishments from providing single-use plastic carryout bags, expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam) food and beverage containers, and plastic stirrers. Plastic straws may be provided to customers upon request. There are exceptions to this law. Visit: Vermont.gov for a full summary and FAQs.
